Australia-East Asia - Towards a Green Future

Energy cooperation shapes much of Australia’s modern day bilateral relations with East Asia. How Australia leverages and develops its energy ties with Japan, South Korea and China will be crucial in achieving energy security and meeting climate goals across the region.

Join Asia Society-Victoria Distinguished Fellow Mr Tatsuya Terazawa, Chairman and CEO of Institute of Energy Economics, Japan and Prof Elizabeth Thurbon, Professor of International Political Economy, UNSW to assess the potential of Australia-East Asia energy relations. The panel will be moderated by the Australia Japan Business Council of Victoria.

About our Speakers

Mr Tatsuya Terazawa, Chairman and CEO, Institute of Energy Economics, Japan

Mr. Terazawa has been leading the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ), one of the leading energies thinktanks in the world, to present pathways to achieve carbon neutrality as well as to recommend measures to enhance energy security for the governments and industries since he became the Chairman and CEO of IEEJ in July 2021. He has been a very active global speaker in the discussions concerning global climate issues and energy security.

Prof Elizabeth Thurbon, Deputy Head of School (Research), Professor of International Political Economy, School of Social Sciences, UNSW

Elizabeth is Professor of International Political Economy in the School of Social Sciences at UNSW Sydney. She has previously held an Asia Society Australia-Korea Fellowship (2021-2022), a UNSW Scientia Fellowship (2019-2022), and Visiting Fellowships at Seoul National University (as a Korea Foundation Fellow) and China Foreign Affairs University.

Katerina Aleksoska, General Manager, International, Australian Hydrogen Council

Katerina Aleksoska is the General Manager, International at the Australian Hydrogen Council (AHC). In this role, she is focused on expanding the AHC’s international network and relationships , particularly in the AsiaPac region, with the intention of assisting AHC member organisations to expand their reach and influence across the region as well as fostering the investment partnerships needed to build and scale the hydrogen industry in Australia.
